This blog is number 1 of a series of blogs dedicated to starting up a business.
When starting a business you need to find out whether you idea for a business is a viable one, so let’s do a little homework first.
People buy things they want, not necessary what they need, but what they want – and what they want is a solution for their problem. They want things they need all the time, ie food, shelter ect.
So, grab a pen and paper, and ask yourself, what solution could you offer? Then make just 3 bullet points of things you could offer to peoples problems.
Now, think about things people need all the time, like food, shelter etc, Then make a list of just 3 bullet points of things you could offer.
Now, look at the two lists, what really grabs you… you need to be really passionate about what you can offer, otherwise, when the going gets tough, and it will as some point or other, it will be your passion that will keep you going. Choose just one thing, whether it is a service or a product, that you can offer… Take this and do some research on it, if other people or doing this, then that’s great, as it means there is a market for it.
Next question…. do you have the qualifications to do this? They don’t have to be formal qualifications, you just need to be an expert in your field. If you answer is no, where can you get training for this?
What resources do you need for this?
Do you have the resources to do this?
Where can I find the resources for this?
Now, look at your lists – Do you feel led in any particular way toward or away from these choices after careful consideration?
Well done, you now have your business idea, download the checklist to make sure you have covered everthing in this episode, next week we will look at customers and competition.
